Gossip
Early politicians required information from the public to determine what was considered important
Since there were no telephones, television, or radios, the politicians sent out assistants to local taverns,
and pubs
They were told to "go and sip some ale" and to listen to people's conversations and political concerns
Many assistants were dispatched at different times
"You go and sip here" and "you go and sip there"
The two words 'go' and 'sip' were eventually combined when referring to the local opinion and thus,
we have the term
"gossip"
